Abstract:
The hymenopteran family Platygastridae consisting of two subfamilies, Platygastrinae and Sceliotrachelinae is a large group of exclusively parasitoid wasp. Members of the subfamily Sceliotrachelinae attack hosts including adult Hemiptera or the eggs of Coleoptera. During our study on Platygastridae, we found a single specimen that was collected from Fars province, Dasht-e Arzhan (51°58′N, 29°38′E, 2020 m), 9 August 2015 via Berlese Funnels and later identified based on morphological characters using available literatures. It belongs to the genus Fidobia Ashmead that has not been reported from Iran. These wasps reported as endoparasites of beetle eggs (Chrysomelidae and Curculionidae) are minute species and rarely collected. This genus with belongs to the subfamily Sceliotrachelinae with owing to 9- or 10-antennal segment, in female with three incrassate clavomeres. Species of Fidobia are very small with dorsoventrally compressed body, second tergite in most species he largest with two anterior depressions anterolateral. The genus Fidiobia Ashmead contains 48 described species in worldwide, of which seven are known from the Palaearctic. Based on the available key to species it was identified as Fidobia hofferi Kozlov that was confirmed by fourth author. This species is easily distinguished from other species by the following characters: Antenna 9-segmented; mesoscutum with incomplete notauli; pronotum hardly visible in dorsal view; T1 almost trapezoidal and T2 smooth, shining, glabrous, without visible sculpture with two large depression anterolaterally. Specimens are deposited in insect collection of the Department of Plant Protection, East Azerbaijan Research and Education Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Tabriz, Iran Hitherto four genus (Allotropa, Amitus, Isolia and Afrisolia) and eight species of subfamily Sceliotrachelinae are reported from Iran. Fidiobia hofferi has already been reported from Czech Republic Finland, Sweden and former USSR. This is the first report of the genus and species for Iran insect fauna.
