Abstract:
The green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hem.: Aphididae), is a polyphagous and holocyclic aphid that can cause chlorosis, necrosis, wilting, stunting, flower and fruit abortion on different crops. In the current study, influence of fertilizing (bell pepper, Capsicum annuum L.) with four micronutrients consisted of Manganese (Mn), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn) and Iron (Fe) treatments, as well as control were evaluated on life history parameters of M. persicae under greenhouse conditions at 25±5 oC, 60±5 % relative humidity and 16:10 h L:D). Data were analyzed according to age-stage, two-sex life table theory using MSChart-Twosex software. Significant differences were found among development time of M. persicae on the fertilizer treatments. The shortest and longest nymphal development time were recorded in the M. persicae reared on Zn and Fe treatments (6.38 and 7.18 days, respectively). The highest and shortest adult longevity of M. persicae were found on Fe (19.29 days) and Mn (15.07 days) treatments, respectively. The lowest and highest total longevity of M. persicae were observed on Mn treatment and control (20.54 and 24.72 days, respectively). The highest and lowest reproductive period of M. persicae were recorded on Fe and Mn treatments (12.04 and 15.62 days, respectively). Similarly, the lowest and highest adult prereproductive period (APOP) were also observed on the Mn and Cu treatments (1.27 and 1.75 days, respectively). Moreover, the lowest and highest total prereproductive period (TPOP) of M. persicae were recorded on plants treated with Fe and Zn treatments (7.68 and 8.80 days, respectively). The lowest and highest fecundity of M. persicae were recorded on Mn (48.83 offsprings) and Fe (65.49 offsprings) treatments, respectively. Results of the current study clearly showed the significant influences of green peach aphid life history fed on the plants grown under different micronutrient treatments that can be useful in improving sustainable management of this aphid.
