Comparative life table parameters of the English grain aphid, Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) on wheat, Triticum aestivum L., treated with micronutrients and bio-fertilizers under greenhouse conditions

Abstract:
English grain aphid, Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) (Hem.: Aphididae), is one of the most abundant aphid species in wheat crops in Iran. In this research, the effect of micronutrients (Librel Zinc and α-Iron), biofertilizres (Probio and Biofarm) and no fertilizer treatment as a control. And their interaction were tested on life table parameters of S. avenae in greenhouse condition [at 25±5 oC, 65±5 % RH and 16:8 (L: D) h]. The biological parameters were analyzed according to age-stage, two sex life table theory, using the TWO-SEX-MS Chart program. Result showed, there were significant difference among different treatments in biological parameters of S. avenae. The lowest and highest fecundity of this pest were recorded on Biofarm and control (5.33 and 35.48 offspring, respectively). The life expectancy (ex) of S. avenae at first day of nymph stage was 14.57, 21.76, 31.4 and 32.42, 32.72 days on Biofarm, Probio, Librel Zinc, α-Iron and control, respectively. Also, the ex at first day of adult stage was 11.37, 20.92, 29.4, 29.65 and 29.78 days on Biofarm, Probio, control, Librel Zinc, α-Iron and respectively. Hence, the lowest and highest ex of nymph and adult stages were recorded on Biofarm and α-Iron, respectively. The survival rates (lx) of adults were estimated 0.29, 0.5, 0.74, 0.78 and 0.83 on treatments Biofarm, Probio, Librel Zinc, α-Iron and control, respectively. The female age- stage specific fecundity (fx) values of the pest were recorded as Biofarm (1 nymph at 19nd day); Librel Zinc (2.72 nymph at 14nd day); α-Iron (2.8 nymph at 14nd day); control (3 nymph at 42nd day) and Probio (4 nymph at 13nd day). The age-specific net maternity (lx mx) values of S. avenae was 0.22 on Biofarm (at day 27); 0.52 on Probio (at day 32); 1.38 on Librel Zinc (at day 21); 1.57 on α-Iron (at day 21); and 1.77 on control (at day 19) nymph on the nth day. Therefore, the lowest and highest lx mx of M. persicae was observed on Biofarm treatment and control, respectively. Our results indicated, which using of bio- fertilizers such as Probio and Biofarm had better potential for decreasing the population of S. avenae and it can be used in the aphid IPM programs.
