Abstract:
Introduction:
Mosquitoes affect the health of people and animals. Mosquitoes are vectors of diseases such as encephalitis, malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Zika virus and yellow fever. Ecological and behavioral studies on mosquitoes are very important in the vector control programs. Some members of Anopheles hyrcanus group are known as vectors of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases in some areas of the world. Anopheles hyrcanus are found in the Caspian Sea littoral, northern Iran. This study was carried out to detect some aspects of ecology and behavior of An. hyrcanus in this part of Iran.
Materials and methods:
Adult mosquitoes were collected using total catch from May to October 2015. We selected three sites in Babol County. Elevation of sampling sites were -10 and +1500m from sea level. Mosquitoes identified using systematic keys.
Results:
Anopheles hyrcanus was active from the end of May till early of October, with one peak of activity in mid-July.We also collected An. pseudopictus and An. maculipennis s.l. in this study.

Discussion :
Due to roles mosquitoes in transmission of diseases it is necessary to determine fauna and biology of mosquito and its relationship to pathogen agents transmission different ecological zones. Therefore, it is recommended that further studies should be undertaken to determine ecology of Iraninan Culicidae.
